Projects undertaken to date
The KGF has partnered with Africa Rising Empowerment Company (AREC) and Kudumane Manganese Resources to:
Provide food parcels as social distress relief during Covid-19 in 2020/2021, to rural villages in the Vaalbank locality, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
The KGF deployed its own resources to:
Solve a water access challenge faced by the communities of the same Vaalbank rural villages, by providing a solar-powered-based water pumping solution to a perennial problem of diesel engine breakdowns and fuel shortages.
The KGF has approved a project to:
Build an Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) to respond to requests by a community of a village in the Vaalbank locality in the Emalahleni Municipality, EC.
Clean energy: Solar-powered water pumping solutions
Activities involved in the solar powered pumping solutions include community engagements, followed by investing in:
- new or existing boreholes,
- water pumps,
- solar panels,
- security fencing,
- bulk water pipes,
- water reservoir tanks,
- water reticulation pipes,
In some instance, local municipalities would have already invested in installing boreholes and bulk water transfer and reticulation infrastructure.
Early Childhood development Center (ECDC) infrastructure solutions
The activities include community engagements, followed by:
- Mobilising public and private partnerships to provide funding and in-kind resources for the required infrastructure.
- Procuring land within the village on which to build the ECDC.
- Appointing local building contractors to build the ECDC.
The outcome is a facility where the early learning and teaching can take place for disenfranchised children.
The impact is long-term change and empowerment, though an enabling environment in which educational foundations can be laid for the children of the rural communities.
